Honduras launches new online video series to spur tourism

September 8, 2009

The series features new informative videos every Wednesday until December

Orlando, Fla. (September 8, 2009) – In an effort to reinvigorate tourism, the Honduras Institute of Tourism has launched a new online video campaign. Each of the 17 short films focuses on a different aspect of the country's tourism offerings. The campaign launched on August 26 with "The Ruins of Copán", featuring engaging content to drive interest in the artistically rich Maya ruins in the western highlands. The second video, "Cayos Cochinos", launched on September 2 and focuses on this small Caribbean archipelago and Marine Protected Reserve off the northern coast. The third video, "Animal Encounters" launches tomorrow.

Each week, the videos are posted on a variety of video sharing Web sites under a "Visit Honduras" username or its own "channel". Viewers are encouraged to comment on each video, share with friends, and even embed the video on their own Web sites or blogs. Two sample Web sites where the videos can be viewed are:

• Vimeo: http://www.vimeo.com/channels/visithonduras

• YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/letsgohonduras

Future episodes in the series include: "Handmade Crafts" (September 30), "Colonial Architecture" (October 14), "Natural Wonders" (October 21), and “Coffee Tours” (October 28). Three destination specific videos will focus on the country's leading tourism cities: Roatán (October 7), La Ceiba (November 4), and Copán Ruinas (November 25). A video focused on Honduras as a whole is also scheduled (September 16).

Honduras is located in the heart of Central America, encompassing over 43,000 square miles, making it about the size of Tennessee. It is only a short flight from the U.S.: two hours from Miami or less than three hours from Houston or Atlanta. Honduras features a 500-mile Caribbean coastline on its north and a 100-mile Pacific coastline on its south. It borders on the west with Guatemala, the southwest with El Salvador, and on the east with Nicaragua. For more information, travelers can call 1-800-410-9608 or visit www.letsgohonduras.com.
